Snake rack

So I've owned a corn snake before and joined the military and had to sell him. Recently I bought an axanthic bp and then got the urge to buy more. So I bought a female spider and a male super pastel. Couldn't fit the tanks in my apartment so I built a snake rack for them.

The tubs fit perfectly in the slots even after heating it. But it seems that from the humidity and moisture the wood has expanded and the tubs are harder to slide in and out. It's not too much of a problem but I'd like to know if there's any way to make them slide in and out smoother. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/09/e7y6a4aj.jpg any help would be much appreciated.

I don't have a suggestion for you unfortunately, because I am not a rack user, but I have to say... I don't think you know how jealous you are going to make some people ;)

That looks awesome!!

Its going to be difficult because youll need wood to unexpand again. When you made it, what "gap height" did you leave, aswell you could always try to take it apart quickly and fix it Try putting a sealant/even Tape the bottom to avoid moisture being absorbed as best as you can.

I mean I could do that it's just a pain to take apart and build again trying to keep the snakes in one place. I used cardboard boxes cut up to space it. The sealant would probably be the best idea on the bottom of the shelves.

I had a similar problem with my first home built wood rack. I solved it by painting the entire unit with latex paint to make it semi water proof and haven't had a problem with tubs sticking since. http://i.imgur.com/lGHRs1u.jpg

Just to add, whatever you end up doing - painting, sealing, etc. - make SURE to let it dry and air out COMPLETELY before putting your snakes back; I don't know enough about it, but I'm thinking several days liek you would with an epoxy or whatnot. I'm sure you'd already be aware of this, but just to solidify that point. :)

Very much so. I aired my rack out in my garage over a weekend before moving its residents in. Also, if painting, go with a low/no VOC option interior paint. One that states it is safe for children and pets will give you peace of mind it won't harm your beasties in any way.

Thanks everyone! You guys were all a huge help! I'm out of town right now but once I get back I'll give it try with either paint or latex. I'll post the results when I do.

So what I did is left the drawers open while I handled them and let it air out and the bins fit perfect again.
