Just a quick question

Right I know nobody can give a diagnosis over the web but is there any other reasons for a BP to make a wheezing sound? I know the obvious ones are RI's, coming up to sheds or shed stuck in their nostrils but he only seems to do it when he's out and being handled, when he's in the Viv he's dead silent again... Do they make this sound when threatened or excited? He loves to be out and anybody could tell he's mine by the way he is with me so I wouldn't say he feels threatened? His husbandry is all set up correctly too before anyone asks :-)

You "think" he loves to be out.

In reality, he's making the same noise that the rest of us make when we wish we could be back in our warm bed but the rest of the house is awake early. :::sigh:::

Large(r) snakes can sometimes huff and puff when they're exerting themselves. I notice it more with my Boas than BP's though.

What morph is he? Some black pastels and cinnamons are known for "squeaking" if they breathe heavily, like when they're out.

Hehe... be honest, is it more like a failed attempt at a whistle?

If so, that would be a hiss. And that would explain why it only happens when he's out. Just nervous (or as you've mentioned, feeling threatened)! Does it also stop after a few seconds/minutes?

P.S. I'm not sure how much you've read about snakes in general, and I do not want to ruin your day... but snakes do not love anything - or that's the popular opinion based on the science known about their brains. They are not social animals, and do not really even "like" us! They tolerate us, they allow us to hold them, or what not. I do think they can prefer certain people to others, as in, they have associated one individual with warmth or security or even food. But I think that's about as far as that goes for them. And they can't help it! Once we accept that, they are that much easier to love ;) me thinks.

It is more like n attempt of a whistle yeah but he hasn't always done it? Last night we was doing it the whole time he was out... ahhh haha okay :-)

Most likely just the snake exerting itself while you hold it.

When you say "whole time" he was out, how long was this? Is it it a constant whistle/crackle with every breath or is it him huffing every so often. My pied pre shed had a whistle every other min or so shed huff and id hear a whistle but it wasn't with everything breath.

It was with every breath however he stopped doing it when I put him back into his Viv... He also seems to be different too, might sound stupid but almost hyper? Like he won't sit still but he comes across so loving... The other night he was more active than usual Which is why I asked if they can get excited :-)

Hes nervous, and trying to get away from you thats why! He feels threatened! Try holding him with no TV on and dimmed light.

Just a thought, might also be in shed. Is s/he blue? They can't see well and get more nervous and uncomfortable around this time.

Do you have any other pets around when you take (took) your snake out?
