Can i get some info on the hydrofarm thermostat? Will this work on my newly built rack?

    Use the search feature.

You will find people that like it and people that don't. I had one and it failed in three months. I think its cheap and I will never use one again but yes it will work. You need to ask yourself if all your snakes are only worth $35 bucks or if they are worth spending $100-130 for a tstat that will last a life time.

I recommend Herpstat by Spyder Robotics. I have two 1s, a 2, and a 4. All have given me problem free service.

Reptile Basics also has a widely used and trusted tstat for the same $100-130 range.

Helix is another trusted tstat that you can pick up near the same price point.

Using the search feature you will find a ton of information on all of these options.

I understand but sometimes doing it right the first time is cheaper in the long road though it may cost more up front.

Like me. I was only using the Hydro as a backup for a new addition and had a herpstat on the way but it could have been bad. What if that was my only tstat and it went down without me having one on the way. Depending on the condition my collection could be is real danger not to mention the danger they were in when it failed.

If you really can't afford a $100 tstat I would recommend buying the Hydro and over the next few months save up for a better one. Then just keep the Hydro for QT for new additions.

Also think about saving up a vet fund. Those visits are not cheap. My gtp came to me with the start of an RI and since I knew the signs we caught it early and he is doing great but that one visit was almost $300. How much you think multiple snakes with burns would cost if that tstat fails and causes burns. That $100 tstat starts looking pretty cheap compared to that.

Get a herpstat! Trust me, I am working on convincing the wife for one, but she isn't quite there yet, so I am using a dimmer... I have to check my heat pad temp 7+ times a day! and with an unreliable thermostat you will/should do the same. $100-$130 buys piece of mind!

This was a recent thread. Check out what they say about the tstat they were using.

Well if you already have a the ZooMed tstat the Hygro is an upgrade but only slightly. I would not waste the $40 on the Hygro and instead put that $$$ toward a nice tstat. With that $40 bucks your almost halfway there and if you check around you may find a nice used one for sale. I would check Craigslist, Fauna, and Kingsnake for sure. Three of the ones I own I bought used at a really good price.

I use a Herpstat 2 and love it. Worth every penny for the sense of security to protect my animals. Also I just saw a thread today saying Spyderobotics is having a 10% off sale on all of their Herpstats starting Friday, so that may be a good time to save a little as well.
