UTH size for 40 gallon breeder
I know this is could be viewed as a semi-stupid question to some people, but i was wondering what size UTH you would recommend for a 40 gallon breeder?

Buy a peice of 6/12" heat tape the width of your tank.... cheaper then the 49$ heatpad youll be getting.

the heat mats are pretty cheap off of amazon.com so I'm going to stick with them, I'm not worried about spending a few extra dollars. i just cant figure out what size to go with

Post a link to the one your looking at. There are many different kinds so it would be easier to know exactly what your going for.

In general the rule is to have 1/3 of the cage floor heated but personally I just make sure the hotspot is big enough that the entire coiled snake fits within its dimensions. That gets pretty hard with my big blood.

When you buy the underrank heater, under the details it usually tells you what size it is is recommended for. Otherwise look at the dimensions and figure out what one would be 1/3 of the cage.

Yes that a medium and is recommended for 30 to 40 gallon tanks. It should work just fine.

When you get it do not stick it to the tank bottom. Get aluminum foil and stick that to the sticky side of the mat. Then you foil duct tape or even duct tape to attach it to the tank bottom. This will allow you to remove it whenever you need to like when your cleaning or changing tanks.
