    Stupid newb question
Ok, so I have been kicking around the though of jumping into breeding in the next year or so, and started looking at different combinations of morphs. I have a Pastel Het. Pied male(I think....he has been probed twice one time he was male the next female...I didn't do the probing) And I would love to bread to a Butter Het. Pied.

I am having two problems, first a Butter Het. Pied is proving to be hard to find. So I have resigned my self to starting with a standard Butter and moving on from there.

This brings me to my second problem and the real question. When you cross a Pastel Het. Pied with a butter you end up with something like this:
    Percent Fraction Morph
    12.5% 1/8 Normal
    12.5% 1/8 Butter
    12.5% 1/8 Pastel
    12.5% 1/8 Butter Pastel
    12.5% 1/8 Het. Piebald
    12.5% 1/8 Butter Het. Piebald
    12.5% 1/8 Pastel Het. Piebald
12.5% 1/8 Butter Pastel Het. Piebald

My question is, how do you tell which are het. and which are not? I have heard of the "tracks" and while my pastel has them I am still not a firm believer in them as a marker.

you get possible hets. they have a 50% chance of being het, and people usually dont bother proving them out unless they show some clear markers, they are generally not priced higher than the price of the other morphs that are involved.

    Male:
    Pastel, Het Piebald
    Female:
    Percent Fraction Traits
25% 1/4 Pastel, Butter, 50% Possible Het Piebald
    25% 1/4 Pastel, 50% Possible Het Piebald
    25% 1/4 Butter, 50% Possible Het Piebald
    25% 1/4 50% Possible Het Piebald

you will not get any visual piebalds this way. for that, both parents need to contribute the gene. so, with a standart butter, you resign yourself to not produce any pieds with that female.

If my pastel het pied turns out to be a female I will sell you my normal het pied if you want to go pied

http://www.worldofballpythons.com/gfx/spacer.gifYeah that is what I was thinking. This was my solution for not being able to find a Butter Het Pied, or just a Butter Pied. I was just hoping that there was some way to know for sure with out having to raise them all and then bread again. Ah the joy of recessives. I was really hoping to bread a Butter Pastel Pied, I think that combo would be sweet.

Thanks Tat2guy, I have a 50% het pied female as well, Pied itself is not my main goal but I will keep it in mind.

if you really want to work with pied, its important to hatch or buy some visuals. the best pairings to produce more of them are visual to visual, and visual to 100% het.

het piebalds often have markers, so when you hatch some possible het pieds, sometimes you can identify and pick out the het pieds. so its less guesswork than with het albino or het axanthic.

keep in mind that butter/lesser pieds tend to be all white with black eyes. they are very nice, because the eyes are black and its a very clean and pure white. but you most likely wont see any of the piebald pattern.
