ID this locality boa (pic heavy)

Sold as a male "Belize" or "Cay Caulker" boa at White Plains in November.

At the time my understanding was that the two are interchangeable, I've since learned that I was incorrect in this assumption but I cant quite remember which one the boa was labelled as, though I am leaning towards Belize.

The growth rate thus far has been impressive, despite only shedding twice, and the temperment has been wonderful... never a hiss, never a strike, except for one incident where my dog stuck his nose in the boa's face and the boa struck but didnt connect.

This is basically every picture I have of my boa since I got him, out of order but along his growth rate and color changes. Sorry for the load warning but I wanna get as precise an ID as possible.

It looks like a Cay Caulker to me. Kind of hard to tell just by pictures though.

Technically, a Cay Caulker and a Belize boa are not the same. They are both B.c. imperator but from different insular localities. Here is some info that might help you...

I would not think your snake is a Belize - they are pretty rare in herpetoculture. Cay Caulkers, while not too common, are not that rare.

Do they lose their red over time? He seems to have a bit more red on his tail, and he tends to be slightly more brownish than gray.

Really depends. The babies are sometimes more colorful, but the adult colors that develop and come in as they grow can be brighter and more vivid than the baby colors.

Personally, I think the pure locality wild-types tend to get prettier as they mature.

Nice going Kali! That was not an easy call. I tend to look at the BCC and mainland BCI's and don't have the eye for the CA boas.

May or may not be spot on but is ball park and better than anybody else is doing to this point!

Also, the insular island localities are confusing. There are actually 3 island localities that fall under "Belize" = Cay Caulker, Crawl Cay, and Ambergris Caye. They are all considered Belize localities as these islands are all found off the coast of Belize, but it is only the Ambergris that are also actually referred to as "Belize Boas" and this is by far one of the more rare localities found in the hobby. :gj:
