    Moving snakes
    Hey guys,
We are moving about an hour away from our current house. I was wanting to make sure the best way to move my snakes.
I have a ball python and a boa in tubs.
I was thinking that I would just unplug their heat mat and thermostats, remove their water from the tu while leaving the snakes and hides in the tubs and moving them to the new house.
Then when we get there, set them back up.
    Will this way work?

    Thanks,
    Taylor

It will work, just put them somewhere where they won't be knocked around too much by the move. If you can't put their enclosures in the car or cab with you, put them in pillow cases.

Ok, thanks, they will be going in the car with us, in their current setup without water and heat.

Best thing is to get them secure in a snake bag or pillow case and placed them in a styrofoam cooler or shipping box.

dont leave the snakes in the tubs, they might get knocked around. i mean, what if there is an accident or what if you just need to hit the brakes really hard to avoid one?

i would put them in snake bags / pillowcases, put the bags in a box with styrofoam lining, put the box on one of the back seats of the car, and use the seat belts to strap it in place. they will be really safe this way, even if something does go wrong.

if there is an accident, you dont want injured snakes, and you also dont want snakes on the loose.

Like everyone else is saying put them into pillow cases or snake bags. Then pack them up in a box and they will be ok.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, it has been very helpful!
My next question is to do with feeding.
We usually feed them every Thursday, but since we are moving on Saturday, should I skip a feed week, or feed them a day or 2 earlier?

    Thanks,
    Taylor

Take a look at this...should answer most, if not all, of your questions about moving. :)

    +1 For this.

Two years ago I moved form Phoenix to St. Louis with nine snakes.

    -A decent sized Styrofoam cooler.
-Individual Pillow Cases (Really cheap at Goodwill, but please wash first)
-Some hot hands (taped to the lid)
    -A thermometer/temp gauge.

Stuck them in there and kept the temps reasonable. Everyone was fine. :)

    Good luck!

You suggested the cooler and pillow case route.
I bought a smaller Styrofoam cooler today because only 1 snake will be in it.
Are those types of coolers air tight, or do they get enough ventilation?
Don't want to suffocate the snake. :)
