Radiant Heat Panel/Herpstat issues = Very Confused😥
Hello everyone I'm hoping you guys will be able to help me out with my RHP. Soooo I've had my Proline cage with Pro Products heat panel set up for a couple months and I love the heat panel but I'm having some problems with my Herpstat. I knew I would have to fiddle around with a set temperature so I could get the perfect gradient and that Was 77.5. But this is where the issue is once it's set to 77.5 my Herpstat turns the heat panel on/off instead of dimming it (which it is set to I've check like a gazillion times! Lol) also when it turns it on it will keep it running at 100% power for a couple hours which makes the heat panel go up to 170 degrees and makes the hotside wayyy to hot! The top of the hide will measure 100+ while the substrate will be at like 95 which is too hot in my opinion. So basically the Herpstat is running my heat panel at either 0% power or 100% power very scarcely does it actually regulate the heat between 0-100. I also have a small rack plugged into the other input but it regulates the heat tape in the rack perfectly using 40% power. So I'm not really sure what's going on or if it's supposed to do this. I haven't had my heat panel for very long so when it gets really really hot it freaks me out. But hopefully you guys can help me out :) what in the world should I do about this?

Oh and it's a Herpstat 2, I don't know if I said that in the main post. And the dimensions of the Proline cage are 32 x 23 x 12.

I hot glued the probe to the lower right wall on the cool side. I thought it might have to do with probe placement but I'm not sure where to move it if that's the problem. Would it be more helpful if I posted a picture of the whole enclosure?

Use a thermometer in the enclosure at the hot side. Set the thermostat to higher or lower temps until the thermometer reads the temp you want.
Yeah probe placement is pretty tricky with these things since some say it should be on the heat panel, or close to the ground since that's where the snake is or dangled from the ceiling. I might try to put it on the heat panel but I don't want any tape inside the enclosure whatsoever. I might also try the dangling method to. Hopefully more people will chime in so I can get some more opinions. Oh and I have an accurite thermometer with the probe hot glued to the bottom of the enclosure under the warm side hide the thermometer unit itself is on the cool side.

I ran the probe in the cage and have it hanging off the basking shelf almost to the ground. Cord is hot glued in place. And this is on the hot side, directly under my panel. Definitely need to move probe to hot side. Once hot side is dialed in, cool side should have a good gradient. Yours is running because it's trying to get the probe on the cool side up to 90. Or whatever you had it set too. And yeah, you don't EVER want to put tape inside an enclosure....

Okay awesome! I read a bunch of threads on probe placement but everyone is saying different things so I had no idea what to do. What do you have your Tstat set to to get a good gradient?

Well, mine is a herp2, and it's running T20's for boas, so I don't know if that matters. I'll have to double check when I get home. But I want to say the top cage is set to like 85, while the lower is set to 86, I think. And it gets them 88/89 ish hotside, 77/78 cool side.

I have two t8s with radiant heat panels. I have the probe placed maybe 2 inches off the ground on the hot side. My herpstat is set to 83-85 on both of them and it holds the temps around 89 hot and 79-80 cool side...
