What to keep in new tank

So I have been given a a large fish tank it's 4ft by 2ft by 2ft so it's pretty big and it had already been set up for reptiles or snakes I just need to kit it out a bit but that will depend on what I put in so if anyone can suggest something nice I can put in there I want a nice display animal in there

I can't in good conscience suggest purchasing an animal merely because you have an enclosure. In fact, my conscience urges me to take the time to make this post.

Do some research, decide what you like, do some more research, figure out if you have the time and money to maintain an animal that may live for many years, save up for the ideal habitat needs, and then consider buying something. If you narrow down the list of candidates, then you may decide to take input from people here to make the final decision.

Not trying to be a jerk, it just seems like an inappropriate motivation for getting a new pet.

Again not to be a jerk but fish tanks IMO suck for keeping reptiles.......heat humidity security you name it

I agree with MrLang and Rob, if it is a fish tank then keep fish in it, if you don't want fish, sell the tank, research what type of animal you want then purchase the proper enclosure.

Assuming that it has a decent secure top (not a screen top, but a real top that will help it hold appropriate heat and humidity levels) I would look at something like a male BCI, dumeril's boa, or a female king snake/larger colubrid.

We have a 125 gallon tank that won't hold water - one of the sides cracked so we replaced it - and we had to make plexiglas lock-in lids for it, use UTH's on both sides with two thermostats plus a heat lamp in winter to maintain temps, etc. It does work ok but it takes a lot more effort to maintain it and to clean it than an enclosure specifically designed for a reptile does.

BCI's come in a variety of morphs that are pretty, including albino, hypo, pastel, etc. My older ones are usually out unless they've just eaten, in which case they spend a few days in their hides to digest. I suggested a male as he likely wouldn't outgrow the tank.

I have a high white CA King - google will have pics. Like the BCI's, he is usually out except for right after he eats and he's quite active.

I would not recommend a ball python as a display animal in that size tank, they prefer to hide and it's way oversized.

I am prepared for the commitment trust me I have had royals for a long time and I used to have a few beardys and a iguana and I have been looking after my friends green tree python for three month now so I now how to look after them I just wanted to no what you guys could suggest
