Albino x Albino Question.

I was at a show today and got to talking to a breeder who (in my book at least) is pretty reputable. We were talking about my aspirations as a breeder and he asked me what pairings I would like to do next year.

I started naming off a few and got to my Albino pair that I wouldn't mind putting together in the future. He mentioned to me that you would never want to mate Albino to Albino, and that you should always do and Albino to a Het Albino. I was taken aback as I have never heard of this before so I asked him why.

His reply was that, with an Albino to Albino, the eggs normally come out smaller than that of a normal BP clutch. He went on saying that smaller eggs often times lead to smaller and weaker babies that would be harder to get started.

My question is: Is there any truth to that? I have never heard of that before. I'm just curious, and by no means am I'm bashing the breeder. As said before, I find him to be rather reputable, and I almost walked out with a pair of Cinnamons from him.

It is an old rumor that I have never seen anyone put out a hint of evidence for. It genetically makes zero sense. I have heard the rumor before, so I wouldn't say it's the breeder being bad, just repeating what he heard.

Now something close to it, would be the caramel albino. Caramel albino females are known to have sub-fertility issues, which unless you don't mind the risk of a less than ideal clutch, you would want to breed male caramel albino to a female het caramel albino.

I have bred Albino x Albino balls a couple of times with no issues.

I wasn't doubting the breeder, I was just curious because I've never heard of that happening.

I'm still planning on doing Albino x Albino when the time comes.

Lol I was planning on doing it this January, however my female Albino, my best eater. Has decided to stop eating in March. Just shy of 1000 grams.

There isnt any issues to that. The only problem you will have is all albinos and be super excited about it!

I'll be excited just to actually get eggs let alone actually hatch them out.
