Baby Red Won't Eat!! :(
Hello everyone!
Just got registered here.. I've had my Red Blood for close to a month now. after the first two weeks I tried feeding him live rat pinkie, live mouse fuzzy and now two FT (Frozen-Thawed) rat pinkies. He won't take them. I don't know if it's because of his housing, his substrate, his location in my house, or if he's just truly not hungry.
If anyone has any tips that they can share with me on getting my baby to eat, I would appreciate it so much!
Alternatively, If you can post pictures of what your red's housing looks like, what substrate you use, etc. I WOULD BE SO GRATEFUL!
Thank you all for your time!
Sincerely,
A Concerned Parent. :(

Just PM'd you back, but I think it'd be a great idea to post a pic up of his exact set up! What temps are you keeping him at also?

I know you were having trouble with uploading pics. Can you describe to me how you have his enclosure set up?
These guys when little need to feel 'secure.' If they are in too large of an enclosure, it can cause them not to feed. Make sure you have a hide, and provide him with a large enough water source to soak in. What type of substrate are you using?

I just moved him from a 4gal tub to a 6qt shoebox lookin' thing. I cut his one hide (it's a cottage cheese dish) down about 1/4 inch. he has a lot less room than he did. I recently joined a group on Facebook and was able to post a picture on there. most of the people said it was due to stress from the larger tub. I keep his temperature at ~80 degrees and his humidity is firm at 65%
The substrate I use his Eco-Earth, because it holds the humidity in very well. I've heard that newspaper is a more efficient route, because it's easier to change but he seems to enjoy the Eco-Earth.

I'd give him at least a week or two to acclimate now that you have him in a down sized more appropriate enclosure, and then offer him a meal again. Hopefully he eats for ya next time!
