    Number of hides in cage
So I've had the same cage set up for about two years and my snake refuses to use one of the hides. The cage is large enough, the temperature and humidity are correct, the right substrate is used. So with that being said are both hides needed or can I remove one without any issue?

How big is the hide? I had the same issue, then read that too big a hide can make them feel insecure in it. Maybe it is too big for him! They like to be squeezed right in there, with their whole body touching the sides of the hides.

    Could that be the case?

remove it if it's not being used.

Personally I put as many in as possible. In my two 2x2 vives I have 4 hides for each snake, plus plants and climbing decor. I know they have their favourites, and just when I think they'll never use them, I see them in an unexpected hide. Mostly I leave them in for security and the option. I figure, if no one else needs the hides, why not just leave them be?

I still believe it is important to have at least 2 hides for a vive - especially a visual vive, but the more the better - so they do have that option with the temperature gradient. Keep in mind that just because you don't see them being used, doesn't mean they aren't. :)

They usually have a favorite hide. I'd keep the second hide in just to have the option of hiding on the cool side. (I'm assuming his preferred hide is on the warm side)

They are actually the exact same hide on each side, but he surprisingly enough hangs out in the cool side even though the temperature of both sides of the cage are at appropriate levels.

Like others have said, he probably just favors that hide for some reason.

My BP picked a favorite hide, out of the two identical hides. I'd switch it hot to cold side and back, still stuck with that hide. As time has gone on he's gotten over it. I leave that hide on the hot side still, though.

My bp likes to hang on the cool side under the hide.
