scale problem?

My bp has areas of scales that look kinda dry, and a few inches of his neck is discolored, pale, which are dry and flakey as well. I've switched to paper towel for substrate. At first I was thinking scale rot? But I'm not so sure. I waited through a couple sheds to see if it would clear up but I think its worsening. He's eating and drinking fine, and he explores his tank at night as usual. His poops look normal, everything seems fine except his scales. I dont want it to get the point where it starts to effect those things, im really worried. What do you think it could be? I'm working on getting him to a vet, but if there's something I could do myself I'd want to try it.

I have no clue. Not scale rot at all. Looks like it could be some stuck shed.

When he shed did everything come off in one long piece, or many small pieces? What is the humidity in his enclosure?

Kind of looks like he's been rubbing on something. What kind of enclosure is he in?

i think sho220 may be on to something. the first thing i was thinking is mechanical wear and tear.

Come to think of it, he's been trying to get out of his tank a lot. It could be him rubbing on the screen top? But there's nothing like this on his face, where he rubs the most on the lid. I also read somewhere that it could be that he's too dry. I'm going to try bumping up his humidity. But what could I do to prevent him from rubbing up on the lid?

If he's trying to get out it means he's not happy in the tank. I'm guessing it's because... it's a tank, which while great for fish really isn't appropriate for BP's without a lot of work and accessories to make it suitable. There's not much you can do about it except ensure that your temps and humidity are correct, and he has appropriate-sized hides. How is he set up? Also, what did his prior owner have him in?
