Boaphile, vision or showcase enclosures?
So, I've FINALLY convinced my husband to allow me to get my first ball python (he doesn't realize it turns into an addiction yet... Sshhh I'm not going to tell him). My question for you all is do you prefer boaphile a, vision or showcases? I do want a display case as this will be a pet for the time being. One of my husbands concerns is that the snake will escape and strangle one of our children in the middle of the night (he has an active imagination) so I want the enclosure that will ease his irrational fears as much as possible while also creating the best environment for our future bp. I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's preferences. Also, if there's a brand I didn't name that you use instead, tell me what it is and why you picked it over the other 3... Thanks!!
Re: Boaphile, vision or showcase enclosures?
I recommend going with an Animal Plastics enclosure. AP cages offer special lock with a key for their enclosure so your husband can be reassured that the BPs wont escape.
I like them over other cages because they're aesthetically more pleasing to me and are a decent price. The only negative thing about AP cages is the shipping can take 2-3 weeks. Other than that, it's probably the best investment I made for my snakes.
By the way, AP sells dividers for their cages just in case you decide to split one enclosure for two snakes ;) Just a thought...

Thank you for the responses! I will definitely be going onto APs site tonight to check them out. :)

Re: Boaphile, vision or showcase enclosures?
I would never buy from boaphile. Everything I've ever read has the most horrible customer service. I have my boas in animal plastics cages, which I am very happy with. I will also be buying a cage from pvc.cages once my gtp gets a bit bigger. I've heard great things about them.
Re: Boaphile, vision or showcase enclosures?
I love my showcase cage. They are difficult to find used, and the price for a new one is high. I like that the fluorescent fixture holder is near the front, they have good ventilation, and look nice from the outside. The gaps above and below the doors are a drawback, but they're worth it considering the molded plastic design with more rounded corners.
I have a boaphile that's cracked from warping (purchased used), and I have heard that the plastic cages that require you to assemble them have leaking issues over time. I can see that making cage cleanings problematic.
I do like the looks of the animal plastics enclosures and have considered them over the years but the risk of leaking, squared corners, the piece of plastic in the middle of the front, and lack of areas for light fixtures have kept me from purchasing one. They are very reasonably priced, though.
Re: Boaphile, vision or showcase enclosures?
You really just have to do some research, decide what features you want or need. I have a couple boaphiles and am very pleased with them but there is a long turnaround time. I didn't want a DIY type cage, any lighting fixtures outside the cage and wanted black cages, plus he's in my state. Any display cage you can get locks on to ease hubby's fear.

I'm in Canada, but I've acquired a Boaphile or two. They seem VERY cheaply made.
