New Rescue - Not Sure What He Is?
Hey guys, so my girlfriend's friend had to get rid of a snake and of course I took it hahah, he/she is a beautiful boa, but im not sure what kind so Im hoping you guys can tell me. He/she has some scars on him for a rat tearing him/her up, but they appear to be healing well. He/she is very friendly and i am already getting attached!
Well here he/she is!

I know she's a Colombian red tail just not sure of the morph I think it's a hypo but not 100% sure

Looks like some type of hypo mixed into it I don't know much about boas I'm more of a ball python guy but for sure it's not 100%

She is a hypo BCI. She may have some Central American blood as her pattern somewhat suggests that, but there's no way to be sure. Either way, she is a lovely snake! :gj:

Yes, she most certainly is 100% hypo. Hypomelanism is not the same gene that makes a hypo ball python. With boas, you can't have "some type of hypo mixed into it". The snake either is or is not a hypo - and this snake absolutely is.
Hypomelanism in boas is the reduction of black pigmentation. There are 3 specific lines of hypo in boas, all are compatible genetically: Salmon, Orange Tail, and Aby lines. Whichever line is involved, the snake has an overall orange color with a distinct butterfly pattern to the saddles (except the Aby line - so named because of the genetic aberrancies in the pattern). There is very little black pigmentation, although some individuals are speckled and/or have "dirty" faces. It is generally accepted that the cleanest specimens are of the higher quality.
I do suggest that this snake may have some CA influence due to the business of the pattern, but that would make it not 100% Colombian and hypomelanism has nothing to do with the locality or mix of locality - it is a morph/gene found in nearly every locality and most subspecies. ;)
