New Jungle Carpet

I received a 2013 jungle carpet python yesterday, who is about 18 inches, and I was wondering if it is normal for these snakes to spend most, if not all, of the day in the hide or if this is part of the adjusting period. I have two hides because the tank is pretty big.

When My I-J Carpet was a tiny worm she spent a fair bit of time in a hide but, poked her head out any time I opened the enclosure. Her enclose is heavily planted and has climbing branches which she would park her butt on for a day or two after a meal.
Now at nights, she was out all the time. I always caught her checking me out as she was kept right next to my bed.
If your worm is staying put in a hide, I would clutter up the enclosure and give it some quiet time to explore and feel secure. Carpets aren't BP's and seem much more inquisitive of their surroundings. That may not be as applicable to tiny Carpets that are low on the food chain(I only have one juvenile and one adult so am not experienced enough to say one way or the other).
It also wouldn't hurt to double check the husbandry, i.e. are the temps and humidity ideal? is the animal likely to feel safe in the enclosure? Etc..

Humidity fluctuates between 45 - 60%. I have a branch that sits at about 90 degrees. Part of the ground is 80 the other is about 87. I might need to add more things to the enclosure as I said I decided to get a rough adult enclosure, not knowing which exact carpet i was getting.

My hatchies hide out a lot, as they grow they'll cut down on the amount of time in the hides. I don't even offer my adults hides, except gravid girls.

I have a 2013 Jungle that I got about 6 weeks ago. He did the same thing for the first couple of weeks, I never saw him. Then, he slowly started coming out after the lights went out. And now for the last couple of weeks, he comes out every evening when the lights are still on and hangs out. I think it has just taken him some time to get comfortable. He is very nippy though, strikes at anything and everything.

I'd say just about every species of snake will spend that vast majority of there time in hides when they first arrive and are introduced into an unfamiliar environment, especially juveniles. Give it time and more than likely it will utilize branches and other perches more so than hides.
