I went to the Austin Expo yesterday and even though it was fairly small, they had TONS of herps. It was hosted by Carl's Creepy Crawlies and had only Texas Captive Bred and Born reptiles.
When we got there, right when you walk in the door you saw an albino Diamondback Rattlesnake. Absolutely gorgeous. They had everything from Burmese, Hognose, tons of Corns, Kings and Milks, an Anaconda, alot of good-looking Ball Pythons, geckos, a rare kind of water dragon that I got to hold and chameleons. I got to hold an albino green burmese and it was the sweetest little guy. I also saw a woman from the previous Dallas Metroplex Expo who recognized me and we talked for a little while. I held one of her baby ball pythons and it was very sweet. She also was holding one and it started hissing at her. Oh we were so scared, viscious little thing ;) We just smiled and had to say "awww, how cute".
What was really cool, they even had a Legless Lizard. Very healthy looking and just so neat. As we were walking around, one woman from Fair Dinkum Frog Farm was selling baby White's Tree Frogs she had bred herself and was selling them for $20. She told me that they were 10 days old. My boyfriend asked me if I wanted one and I just couldn't resist. We took home the fattest baby who is a dark blue/green with snowflakes on him. He's gorgeous. I think we decided to name him Murphy since the first song he heard on the way home was from the band Dropkick Murphy's. Gonna be an Irish frog :) Anyway, I will try to get pictures as soon as I can, but he is pretty tiny, could sit on a nickel. Adorable as hell though. We have him in a 10 gal with moist paper towels, some bamboo sticks to sit on and a full-spectrum light for the day and a night bulb. He seems pretty content with himself. The woman told me to keep the enclosure simple and if it got below 72 in the house to use extra heat. Her adults are awesome looking, and she even knew who our frog's dad was because of the snowflake pattern on ours.
Sorry so long, it was just a great day :-D
