Question about applying PAM to enclosure

Hello folks!
I will *hopefully* be coming home with my first BP tomorrow. I will be buying at a show and want to pre-treat the quarantine tub with PAM (I also plan to treat the snake with reptile relief spray as well, just in case). This is all preventive, since I won't know if the snake has mites or not, I just don't want my other snakes to get them. I have never used a pesticide product like PAM around animals before, so I'm a little nervous about doing it the right way (so that I don't kill my new snake).

I will be housing the BP in a 25 quart tub for quarantine and have just sprayed it with PAM. I have three questions for you guys that have used PAM before.

1. Do I need to spray hides, etc? (I just sprayed the empty tub with paper towel substrate)

2. The bottle says to spray 12" - 15" away at the rate of 1 second per square foot of surface area. I did this, but sprayed an extra "second's" worth on the upper sides of the tub.. Is this an issue (i.e. too much spray)?

3. How long should I let the tub sit outside before it is "safe" to air out indoors?

Personally I love PAM, its saved my butt a few times with out breaks.
Dont over think it. Take out the water dishes, spray the substrate and let it dry. Done

PAM is short for Provent a Mite. Lol it's okay every time I see PAM that's the first thing I think too. Lots of abbreviations on this forum haha.

I'm thinking it should be plenty dry by tomorrow. I just wasn't sure if spraying slightly more (on the sides of the tub) would cause an increase in airing-out time or something (for it to be safe). If that's not an issue, then I guess I'm good to go! :D

Spray the tub, hides, and paper towels. Keep some paper towels that have been treated with PAM and dried on hand so you can replace soiled ones with clean ones as needed for the next week or so. Hopefully you won't see any mites.

i would not use any product directly on the snake.

even when you really have mites, it is not necessary to use any chemicals directly on the snake.

every now and then a snake shows signs of poisoning or weird behavior or scales flaking off or something like that after someone sprays it. some people even manage to kill their reptiles this way. and every time i wonder why the owner decided to take this unnecessary risk. especially when there are no mites involved.

PAM is good for two reasons: it works, and its safe.

spray it on all surfaces that can absorb it. if the hide is made of porous rock or wood, spray it. if its smooth plastic, dont spray it. if you sprayed smooth surfaces that can easily be cleaned, just wipe it off. PAM is for the substrate / paper towels, and for decorative items that are difficult to clean. it doesnt even work on smooth surfaces, because there wont be any mite eggs on smooth surfaces.

Spray all around the sorroundings of the cage itself to. Mites will lay eggs out of the enclosure as well.

I was unaware that PAM was just for porous surfaces... When I sprayed the tub, I sprayed the sides and the paper towel / newspaper substrate. After it dried, I moved it into the area it would be at for quarantine, but managed to spill some of the water from the water bowl, thus had to change out all the substrate, so I guess it was a useless treatment.

If I see any signs of mites, I'll retreat and go from there and I will spray the carpet / area around the tub.

My new snake looks very healthy and shows no signs of mites, so I have my fingers crossed that I won't need to worry about it.
