Lost one of my ball pythons today :-(
Today I had to put down one of my ball pythons, Barricade. We have been fighting a RI for the past couple of months and none of the antibiotics that we were giving her were making her any better. We did culture after culture and more bacteria kept showing up. I did everything I could for her and I knew that if I would have kept going then I would just be keeping her alive for myself and she would just be suffering. It was a hard decision but I know it is best for her.

I had her for 6 years, and when me and my ex broke up he kept her and I kept our 2 other snakes. I got a call a couple months later from one of my friends saying that he abandoned barricade at his house and that she will not eat at all. I went to get her and she was completely skin and bones, I brought her home and got her back up to weight, but once she put her weight back on I could see all the scars on her body. It breaks my heart that she had to go through that and then this RI started up and nothing was working. I know that she is in a better place now.. but I will always love and miss my Barricade.

Extremely sorry for your loss. Two months to go from healthy to emaciated. If you don't mind me asking, did your vet have any ideas regarding such rapid weight loss in regius?

Presumably the RI had influence. Every time I get sick I lose weight very rapidly. It takes a lot to fight it off...

    Sorry for your loss.

We'll he had her probably for 5 months so I'm not sure if he just didn't feed her or what. But she didn't get the RI until this year and I got her back about a year ago. So the weight loss was just no food. But the vet thinks that she lost her immune system bc of that and that any kind of stress or weather change could cause the RI. So who know... I just know that she is in a better place now and she isn't suffering anymore
