    Is this normal?
    Hello again,
For those of you who frequent this section, I'm sure you may have seen my other threads. With that being said I truly appreciate all of your feedback and responses, as they've helped me to make a comfortable and appropriate enclosure for my new ball python Severus. I've been keeping an eye on my little guy for a few hours now, and he seems to be exhibiting some odd behavior, or what I'd consider to be odd. He's in the corner of the tank looking up, as in his head is in the top of the tank by the screen and his body is erect. I know snakes are curious creatures and are always looking for an escape, but he's been doing this for at least 3 hours now. It doesn't seem like a natural position, it looks uncomfortable. I took some pics so you can see what I'm talking about. I apologize in advance for the quality, as these were taken with my cellphone.

I would provide him with hides he can get comfy in. that particular hide has two holes, correct? try getting one with just 1 opening. or make one from a terra cotta planter. he seems to be looking for a place to squeeze himself.

They'll do that from time to time when they are young. I have a small 2 1/2 year old that still does it. When they get bigger, they tend to grow out of that habit.

That hide does have two openings, but it was the best available hide at my local pet store that would fit in his current habitat. I'm going to buy some more plants for the enclosure, placing at least one in the corner behind the hide as it is in the corner shown in the pic. It'll drape over the hide and cover the back entrance, hopefully making it a bit more secure. Although he doesn't seem to have an issue with the hide, he's slept fine in there since I purchased him a few days ago. Now that I think about it he could be basking, in an odd manner. The heat lamp is directly above that side of the tank. Although I don't know why he wouldn't just lay on the rock or climb the vine.

I have one of those too, which is why I know about the two openings. mine is in a 15qt tub with a terra cotta hide on the cold side, and that gives her plenty of little places to jam herself.
