Scale rot treatments

So today while holding my lesser male, I noticed orange rust on 1 scale on his neck. Instantly, I thought "Oh God, SCALE ROT!" After further inspection, he also had about about 4 scales on his stomach infected too. I completely cleaned his tank and everything in it, and applied polysporin to his infected areas. Where I live, the winter has been harsh and dry. I read up, and people said to soak him in chlorohexadine and then polysporin. I'm very lucky I caught it early because he's very dear to me. Any suggestions. Last resort is vet.

Given the extent you don't really need to do more, you just need to make sure to keep the substrate dry and clean (preferably changing the substrate to paper towel), and wait until the next shed.

Remember that scale rot is in most cases caused my damp substrate so this is something you will need to be careful with in the future.

Also keep in mind that cream such as polysporin and other antibiotic ointment can lead to loss of scale if used to often.

Thanks so much. I got worried about him, seeing some pictures on the Internet. How often should I apply the polysporin?

Just keep the enclosure clean.
The scale rot will go away with the next shed or two. If you really want to do something, you can just swab some Betadine on it. But other than that, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Sounds like a minor case.

If necessary the only thing I would do is clean the area with Betadine or Chlorhexidine however given the extent so long you keep an eye on it and keep your BP on clean paper towel it will be just fine.
