Are snakes with IBD

Are snakes with IBD active normally? I have a caramel albino who I just received. HE seems to be a little bit of a Star gazer he doesn't cork screw. But is really active always cruising the tank

I could be wrong as I'm in this only about 2.5 years...but every time I get a new snake, they seem to inspect every aspect of their cage...including staring up at the heat lamps a bit. I think it's just normal curious behavior, checking things out. I read somewhere that a way to check for IBD is to flip the snake on it's back and if it can right itself without problem, it's fine.

But like I said, I'm pretty new to all of this...

It may take several days for a new snake to adjust to the new surroundings. I have moved some of mine to new cages and had them suddenly become explorers for a few days. Then they return to staying in their hides with just their nose sticking out of the opening.

Awesome thanks for the Positive vibes!!! I think just always knowing about IBD just super freaked out. Im pretty sure he is just checking it out. When talking to the previous owner today also he did say he would star gaze at the top of the light. So if he's always been a semi star gazer. Im pretty sure he's just checking it all out, I would be crushed if something happened to him. Im just glad I had him QT away from my cinnamon Het carm and het carm breeders

IBD is a virus with stargazing/corkscrewing as a symptom, however if your snake is a Caramel or has the gene, he is probably only doing it because of the neuro problems inside the gene, and not because he has IBD. If every snake that wobbled or corkscrewed had IBD, we probably wouldn't have anymore ball pythons, because IBD is incurable and lethal. While neuro issues in genes are also incurable, they also don't get contracted by other snakes in contact with the corkscrewer, and in mild to moderate severity, often don't lead to any issues in longevity.

tldr;; your snake probably isn't IBD positive, and is instead just being a goofy Caramel. :gj:

Snakes can have IBD and be asymptomatic indefinitely.

Even if they have it, many never present with neuro symptoms.

If you're worried, ask your vet for the IBD blood test.
