Another temp/humidity question.

I know it's been asked multiple times, but I haven't found what I am looking for.

I've had my snake for close to a month now, he is 8 and I bought him and his enclosure from his previous owner.

This being said, he's been in the same tank for 5 or more years now, and there's been no issues.

Except I can't for the life of me get the temps and humidity up.

He had a very small water bowl that came with the tank on the cold side and I went out and purchased a large soak bowl which is on the hot side as well as I got an additional small bowl on the cold side. He has a heat lamp and UTH on the hot side, but the temperature wont go higher than 85°.

The humidity is way too low, like I said i added a huge water bowl, the tank has a cage like secured top which I have a towel over, I run a humidifier right next to the tank, I mist the tank daily, and now I am trying the wet towel trick, which slightly worked.

I want to know what works for others. What kind of substrate do you use? Do you mist? Do you use moss and what kind? Basically anything that will help me will be appreciated :)

What are you using to measure temperatures?

Does the UTH have a thermostat controlling it?

How thick is your substrate layer?

What type of heat lamp are you using/What wattage is it?

I have 2 thermometers and a hygrometer, my lamp is on a timer, as far as wattage I am unsure because it came with the tank but it looks to be around 100-150 .I am in search of a thermostat (looking into what one to get) but the UTH does get fairly hot. The substrate is still what the snake came with and seems to thick, but I want to get some personal opinions on what bedding to use before I go out and replace it, which that time is coming since I am doing a full clean out soon.

Scratch that, It can hold 100-150 watt bulbs but I don't think that's what's in it

As for what thermostat to get you I would recommend any of these:

Budget: The hydrofarm. These are cheap units that will get you by but don't offer much in terms of reliability, accuracy, or safety.

Midrange: The Dwyer, these are much higher quality than the hydrofarm, but aren't as accurate as the better thermostats on this list:

Best: The hydrofarm line of thermostats are the best available right now. They were designed for the reptile community and are the most accurate. They also have safety features that the other thermostats on the list don't have. I use these and recommend them highly.

What type of light bulb is it? a regular household bulb, a white heat lamp, a colored lamp, etc?

It looks like an outdoor garage light? (note to self turn OFF before flipping over to look:P) Guess I am adding another thing to the list of what to buy the spoiled serpent. Should I get an infrared bulb or just a normal heating bulb? and aspen bedding or coconut fiber?

I would go with an infrared heat lamp. I like the Zoo-Med Nocturnal Infrared lamp.

Aspen is more or less humidity neutral, coconut fiber will boost your humidity significantly if kept damp. I prefer coconut fiber. If you do get coconut fiber I would recommend getting it in the uncompressed bags vs the compressed bricks. The bricks have a lower quality product in them.

Ahh thanks :) do you turn your lamp off at night? Mine turns on in the morning and runs for 12 hours?

I run my heat lamps 24/7 on a light dimmer to control the temperature inside the cage. I have fluorescent lights for viewing & day/night cycle that I run for 12 hours a day.

Where can you buy uncompressed coconut fiber?
