Just got peed and pooped on
So I'm holding my new ball python, letting him kinda just explore and go where he wants, and all of a sudden I feel wetness soaking through my jeans. Surprised me at first until I saw the poop that followed and realized what was up. Let him finish of course, and put him back in his tank.

My question is, is this some kind of defense response? Or does it mean he's getting comfortable with me?

Or do I just need to keep a certain timeframe in mind after feeding to avoid another incident like this? (I think it was about 4 days after the first mouse he took since getting him)

I honestly think they prefer to poop outside of their enclosure. They hold it as long as they can while they are in their hide because they don't want to be laying in it. Once they are out they lay it down... usually on the bed or your clothes:D

You never really know when it's going to happen. A sausage butt is a good indicator of an impending plop, but you can't predict when. Usually happens on something clean or light colored. I had a hatchling male butter that unloaded every time he was held for the first month. But now he is great and never let's us have it. But my year and a half old female pastel suddenly dropped a surprise out of nowhere a few weeks ago. I guess the best tip is to watch for the tip of its tail to suddenly go up...then look out!

Just one of the joys of being a herper! Welcome to the club!

Yep, ive had that happen... Twice, once immediately after i changed the sheets on laundry day... They were still warm from the dryer even, and i though he would enjoy it. He enjoyed it a little too much methinks. XD

LOL. Yeah I've had that happen. One of my lesser females escaped and was lost for 4 days a few months back. When I found her she felt cold so I stuck her under my shirt to help warm her up. She decided that was the perfect time to pee on me.

For the most part, these are sedentary animals who live by ambush hunting, and unless they are on the search for a mate, or a new termite mound to live in, they don't get a lot of exercise. The ones we keep in captivity are even more inclined to hang out in small hides and don't do a lot of traveling. So, it stands to reason that when we get them out of their enclosures and get them moving, their whole system gets moving. Some of them do it more than others, but having them poop during handling is pretty common. Enjoy :D

Mine typically go in a corner in their cage or in their traveling basket en route to a gig, but once...once...my dear Kismet must've decided that she was DONE with our set and as I'm exiting to the back of the restaurant we were dancing, I felt a gush down my back. And I knew I wasn't sweating that much. Lucky for me, the owner's wife dropped a bottle of vinegar at the same time, so the smell wasn't as noticeable to the customers. I went to my changing area and mopped off snake urine as best as I could and it took me weeks to get to smell out of that costume lol!
