    Might get a Dumeril's Boa...Have a few questions.
So, I have the opportunity to take in a Dumeril's Boa that an owner can't keep due to time constraints. I've been researching what it would take to care for this snake, but I always like to hear from people who actually own the snakes, rather than merely the care sheets online. From my research, it looks like they require similar housing and environments as Ball Pythons - 40-60% humidity, hot spot of 90, hides, etc. Is there anything that I should be aware of with these snakes? Will he be comfortable in a tub (I use a rack system for my Ball Pythons)? Do they like regular soaks? Do you have any tips or anything like that (I already know to quarantine and all that - plus I want to meet the snake before I agree to take him, just to check him out and make sure we're a good fit for one another)? Thank you for all of the advice offered, all questions answered, and all that good stuff. I appreciate it!

I have my girl in my rack with my ball pythons. She is in a 41 qt right now. Same husbandry as a BP almost exactly. I never soak any of my snakes, there's no need to, so it's a no on the soaking. As far as hides go, I would just give yours a thick layer of bedding to hide in. They loveeeee to burrow lol

I love my dumerils, best snake I have. Greatest temper, and is an eating machine!

Awesome! Thank you so much for your response. I'm glad to hear that they have a good temperament. I know my Ball Pythons do, and it's part of why I love them. My littlest sister handles them without issue on a regular basis. Do they tend to be pretty active when you take them out? Or are they more like "Oh, warm spot. I'll sit here"?

mine tend to be very active and constantly searching for somewhere to go. depending on the age/size you will want to give them plenty of deep substrate to hide in. they seem to prefer that to an actual hide. my big girl is 6'8" and approx 45lbs so be prepared for that. I keep her in an xmas tree tote with about 8 inches of aspen. she's loveable and easily handable but keep in mind they are purely terrestrial so if you dont properly support their body while handling they will flail around trying to get proper support

He's about 4 ft long according to the current owner. Only 1485g as well. So he still has a good deal of growing to do, as far as I understand. Thank you for the advice, and the idea on the Christmas Tree Tote. That's something I'd never thought of before. I figure that right now, handling him would be like handling my big female Ball Python - she's about 4 ft and weighs 2061g. So I can definitely handle and support his body now - and even if he were to get to 45lbs, I can hold that much and a lot more =] Woo! I'm loving the info I'm learning about them. Thank you!

Well, they are great snakes, but most likely you will need a bigger cage when its full grown. I always say 1ft for every 2ft of snake. If it turns out to be a female, it could be about 8 ft long, so I say a 4 ft viv and you should be good to go!

Thank you =] I'll be seeing him on Tuesday most likely, so if he's a healthy and happy snake, he will have a new loving home! And I'm looking into making a viv for him - essentially turning a coffee table into a viv. =]
