egg aggression

will most females be pretty defensive after they lay their eggs when you are tying to get the eggs out, or does it just depend on the snake?
just trying to prevent a bite when the time comes if its most likely to happen.

They will all be angry, hissy, strikey protective mamas. I'd be very surprised if you had one who was any type of mild-mannered while the smell of egg is still in the air. Haha.

Had my first girl ever lay eggs this year. I was expecting to have to deal with a pissy momma, but getting her off the eggs wasn't bad. My husband distracted her from the front, nd I picked her up gently from behind and unwrapped her. She gave one short half-hearted hiss before getting a bath while the eggs were moved to the incubator and a new clean tub was set up for her.

My girl was extremely defensive over her eggs, tried striking at me to get me away, but when she realized that I wasn't going to leave her alone she just kind of resigned herself and tried to huddle over them and scare me off with incessant hissing. She didn't try to bite at me once I had her off the eggs.

i dont have personal experience with it, so for that read what the others write. but this kind of defense seems perfectly natural, they defend their eggs, just like many other birds and reptiles do.

what i want to say is: if its a problem, you can gear up, use leather gloves and a snake hook. and have everything prepared and in place before you go ahead and pull the eggs.

Sometimes they are too tired to put up a good fight with you. But I've seen some really calm mommy's and some really feisty protective ones. I think it just depends sometimes.

The most calm sweet girl will be aggressive on egg collection day be prepared for anything. I usually throw a face towel or T-shirt on her head then pick her up gently and unwrap her from the eggs. Take moms straight to a bath and wash with a mild hand soap read your labels please. Remove eggs and Wash the tub and everything in it using a bleach solution. Now you can place mom back inside with no fuss. Time to attend the eggs. Happy hunting...
