My Black pastel and normal pairing
Just wanted to show you guys my black pastel het pied that I keep talking about. He's 600g and 6 months old. I want to breed him to my black back normal (1700g) and my new abnormal female (4,000g). I've been introducing him to my smaller female but he just isn't interested in girls yet! I'm kinda worried about putting him with my big female...she's a big girl....haha. Anyways let me know what you think about them. I love the orange on my black pastel.

I think he's big enough for sure. I hear people throw their males in at 300g! I will never do that young though.

Yes he is big enough so if he produces sperm plugs he is ready, that does not mean he will be interested or get the job done but the only way to know is to try.

And don't let the size difference scare you, the little guys know their ways even around the largest girls.

Thanks Deborah, you made me feel so much better haha. I believe he is producing, I honestly don't know. I've popped him several times to check and it's nothing like my 3 year old male, who is producing like crazy! I'll give him a try this week and see what happens. When males are ready, do they just kinda get in there and do the deed right off the bat? He almost seems scared too lol

It really depend on the male, experienced ones may start showing interest right away courting the female soon as being placed in the enclosure, while others might take a little longer, being a first timer he might need a little time to figure it out too.

There are various tricks that you can use to help young first timer males (like placing the shed of anther male in the enclosure, smearing the sperm ifs of another male on the female's back.)

It can take time. My bumblebee started close to 700g, my cinny started closer to 800g, my normal that I'm dinkering around with is around 600g and terrified, and my pastave is 300g and is starting to get the idea. And only the normal is eating.

Oh my goodness, they certainly vary! Good to know though, thanks for the input! I guess I'll give him a try and keep feeding him well (he eats med rats). Hopefully he will kick in soon!
