Temperature difficulties

Hello! New to the site and the ball python world!
I've had my new baby Sampson for just 3 days now. My warm side stays right around 89, but my low side stays 72-74, which from what I read is too cold. The humidity is basically a constant 60%. Is it okay for my cold side to be that cold or does it need to be warmer? If so, how can I warm it? I'm currently using a ceramic heat emitter to warm the tank (I have a UTH but it gets way too hot and I don't have a thermostat so I just keep it off).
Also, since I'm here asking questions anyways, my water bowl is rather oddly shaped and a little big. I put it on the cool side, but since it takes up quite a bit of room, I have to put one of the hides towards middle as opposed to having it all the way on the cool side. Is it better to have the water on the side and the hide towards the middle or vice versa?
Sorry for the many questions! Any help would be MUCH appreciated! :)

Hi and welcome to the forum. Your low side is a bit low and should go up to at least to 76. What kind of enclosure are you using to house your BP?

You could just move your CHE closer to the cool side. Also covering your cage mesh with towels/aluminum foil helps trap heat/humidity.

Totally agree with this. If your using a glass tank cover 1/2 to 3/4 of the cover :) I think there's a step by step thread on here on how to wrap it up. I'll post it here for you :) I have two glass tanks that I'm about to get rid of once my PVC cages arrive. I keep a folded towel over the top of mine and it helps a lot :)
