ok,now that i have switched to newspaper i am seeing the pros and cons of using it, like back when i was using eco earth i could mist and mist and it really wouldent be a problem but with the newspaper you would end up with a soggy mess, the pros are its super easy to clean and lets alot more warmth through. I have a BIG water bowl in the tank but i still dont think it will provide enough humidity for a shed so maybe i will have to switch again to somthing new like repti carpet of astro turf, any suggestions ??

How about just make a simple humid hide for when it's needed?

Or do what I do, put damp towel over the top, and when it dries out, mist both sides of the towel to re-dampen? I've found it raises the humidity and keeps it that way for several hours.

Only pros and cons I can think of are the obvious ones...

Pros: Easy to clean. Easy to come by. Cheap. Cage heating is easy.

Cons: Doesn't hold humidity. Not aesthetically pleasing. Ink might run if snake slithers on it after bathing.

But yeah, I guess it's already answered. Humid Hide! lol

I use newspaper, but to make things more aesthetically pleasing I put paper towel over it. I loved using astroturf, but it was just too much of a pain to clean for me when I have so many other pets, not to mention housecleaning, working, etc. to do.
I love having newspaper because you can see all of the feces and urate, and eliminate it from your cage. Other substrates can hide some, and it'll foul up your tank.
During shed times, I put plastic wrap over the screen lids of the cages where needed (most of my cages have plexi lids anyway) and use sphagnum moss to retain humidity. True, I do leave a layer of newspaper in there, and it does get soggy, but oh well. :)
