Built my first incubator! (Pic heavy) A few questions
First off here are a few pics of the incubator. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/28/ade8y4er.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/28/9unu3ymy.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/28/nejeje3u.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/28/ne7evury.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/28/abevahy8.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/28/3e6u7asa.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/28/3abyqujy.jpg

Well I have the probe on the back wall. Is this good placement?

I have my herpstat set for 89f. I have 88-90 everywhere in the cooler and my egg box ranges from 84-88. It has been running for 24 hrs. Now the substrate is 83 (temporarily using coconut husk for testing because I don't have vermiculite yet) I plan on using egg crate on top of the substrate for the eggs to sit on. How is this for temps. I guess I am asking where should I be measuring the temps and what range should they be. Does the inside of the egg box need to be 88-90? Or just the air in the incubator and the box will be fine?

Thanks for any input. The cooler tips hold steady so far just the egg box may have dropped from me opening too often tonight.

I run the thermostat probe right into an egg box...

Correct me if I'm wrong but is that supposed to be the chamber temp! And the egg box temp will be around 85-86.

Temp in the egg box box should be between 88 to 89.

Correction, the egg box temp should be within .5 deg of the chamber. I think probe placement is ok, better than having it in the egg box. Sorry about that I need coffee!

Heat sink. Works like a false wall and allows for more even heating rather than one side being hotter than the rest.

You need to measure the temps in the egg box and if they are too low you will need to adjust your t-stat setting until you achieve optimal temps in said egg box.

Some people place their t-stat probe on the heat tape and adjust accordingly until their egg tub reaches desired temps. (same principal as rack setup)

Some people place their t-stat probe in the egg box, careful with that as toward the end of incubation eggs generate heat, which would make the t-stat run the temps cooler for the other tubs. (not by much but still)

I place my t-stat in a dummy tub, it is set like an egg box but does not have eggs in it, I tape both thermometer and t-stat probe on the lid of the tub.

I take temps measurement in two places at all time but also use a temp gun if checking clutches.
