Handling times.

I figure this question has been asked over and over again but I was wondering if handling every other day for 10 minutes is too much for a new ball python . I only got him on Feb 10th but it has eaten twice . I hope a few months from now I can handle it daily but I am trying to take it slow . Also how do you know when it is too much? Thanks

I think, I think, you can do that. Seems fine in my opinion.. Just make sure you don't handle 6 hours before or after feeding. ;)

Yea I should have mentioned except the day of and two days after feeding . I am also interested on hearing others handling schedules so feel free to post how you do it too .

I'm a new owner too only had mine a week now. He's 4 months old and really sweet. I held him everyday up until a few days ago when I realized he was about to shed, so I left him.for 2 days and caught him shedding early yesterday morning. I fedhim last night and he ate quick and easy, so I'm leaving.him again for a couple days. But I plan on handling him for a little while each day once he's digested, so he gets use to me and the things going on in my house. He doesn't seem afraid when i have him out, so I don't see anything wrong with it

I have had Nayo for 5 weeks today and she gets handled several times per week up to 90 minutes per. We let her decide how long or if she wants attention. After she is gently lifted from her enclosure we just pay attention to the "vibe" she gives us. A few times now she has stayed tense and unwilling to move about or through our hands. Those times we hold her over her enclosure and she moves right back where she wants to be. Other times (the majority) she will try to climb up our arms in an attempt to stay out and about. I'm no expert, or even novice (Nayo is my first reptile ever) but I would guess that your snake will get comfortable and let you know. B-)

A typical non-shed week rolls along something like this:

Wed) Feed

Thu) No Handling

Fri) No Handling

Sat) Handle

Sun) Handle

Mon) Handle

Tue) No Handling

I have most of my time off on the weekends, and that's when I have the most time to handle. That's why I start my BP's week and feed on Wednesdays; by the weekend, they're good to go.

Exceptions and exemptions are as follows:

I will handle for tub maintenance at anytime, but since this consists of picking up the animal and putting them right into a clean tub, it's minimally invasive if they are in shed or refusing to eat.

I do not handle BPs that are refusing to eat except for tub maintenance and periodic physical update checks of the snake.

As with all things, your mileage may vary ;)

Cool thanks everyone for posting . I handled him for 10 minutes last night and he just stretched out across my lap and laid there pretty much the whole time. He seems really comfortable so far.
