breeding firefly
I am thinking about buying an adult female to kick off breeding with my firefly male. I already have a fire female but it is going to be a while before she is ready to go. What would be a good pairing with the firefly besides fire. We are going to wait the fire out before we try for the super fire and we don't want to have another fire. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: breeding firefly
You can get a breeding size spider female for a pretty decent price now a days. That would be my choice.

fire works with almost anything, which makes this difficult to answer.
maybe further explore the gene complex with vanilla?
or maybe enchi, enchi has a crazy effect on super fires so you may want to have enchi fire, to aim for enchi super fire later on. besides the fact that enchi fire would be awesome anyway, because both enchi and fire are very good enhancer genes that work nicely with a lot of other morphs.
more pastel also couldnt hurt. or a spider or pinstripe.

Pastels can be found for affordable prices, and getting a super pastel fire (superfly) would be a great addition to any collection.
Other genes that could be beneficial and perhaps more readily available for a good price range would be the mojave, or lesser.
You could end up with:
Firefly Mojave http://www.worldofballpythons.com/mo...irefly-mojave/
Firefly Lesser http://www.worldofballpythons.com/mo...irefly-lesser/
Any of these would be a great addition without spending too much!

Wow! Y'all are throwing some good ones out there. I'm really digging the enchi fire combos but I may not be ready for that price range. Vanilla makes some cool stuff too. Actually all the suggestions made so far are awesome, which makes it even harder to decide. Thanks a lot, lol:D

Firefly I would pair to a spider or even better a bumblebee. You can get super pastel fire bees. Another idea would be to do an enchi you can never go wrong with enchi
edit: looks like I took to long to submit my post everyone posted my ideas lol

What is your budget when it comes to adult females?
I would pick a enchi female or enchi combo female, it will be hard to find an adult though and combos will be pricey.

Re: breeding firefly
I would say Mojave is your best bet. You could get a sub-adult female that will be ready for this fall for $400-$500, or an adult female for $600-$800. Mojave is probably the best bang for your buck. Pastels and Spiders are cheaper, but I think the Mojave combinations are better and not done as often, so you might have an easier time selling the babies you decide not to keep.

on second thought, since its about an ADULT FEMALE, and the market for these isnt nearly as big as the one for hatchlings....
maybe just see whats the best that is within price range, and go at it from the opposite direction. maybe, as you search for specific single-gene females, you come across a nice double-gene female that is in price range as well, and that can also fit what you already have, like a black pewter or a lemonblast or something.
another issue i just remembered and thats worth mentioning here: when you shop for adult females that are ready to breed and that are of breeding quality, make sure that you dont buy other peoples problems. like when someone has 5 females as holdbacks, but one wont switch to rats, and another one later just wont get gravid, so 3 of these go into the breeding operation, and two hit the market you are looking at.
and i even found a really good article about this, which i just re-read, and yes, its good stuff:
http://ballpythonbreeder.com/2009/12...ples-problems/
so, yes, the drawback to not going the usual route and buying hatchlings is an awful lot of complication. lots of things to consider.
