Climbing BP?

Hi everyone... first time owner here. This might be a silly question but I am a bit curious: Is it normal for a BP to climb often? Stairs (especially), bookcases, pillow mountains, you name it. I was under the impression that they would rather go UNDER things instead of over.

I am quite new to this too and came on the site for the same reason. My hubbies bp climbs everything in his tank and when we get him out. I didn't realise that they can climb so well. Should I get him some wood to climb on. Also he loves going in his water bowl is that normal or is there something wrong.

If you're building a BP obstacle course, which is what it sounds like, don't. They will climb on things but they're not dogs. I don't let mine climb on things unless she's in her tank. They can and do fall, or get into weird spots that can be tricky to remove them from without hurting them.

Younger / Smaller BPs can be fairly good climbers since their power to weight ratio is actually pretty good. Once they start to put on some size they will be less inclined to do much "branch type" climbing. As they get older, their weight to length ratio starts to work against them. Can they climb into a tree? Probably, but they will never be agile like a Vine Snake or even a Rat Snake. Also, the heavier they get, the more dangerous climbing will be since there will be a greater chance for a fall.

Climbing stairs or mounds of pillow is not really the same, since they are still pretty much fully supported.

That is cute, but it's also a fall waiting to happen. Not telling you what to do. Just trying to make you aware of the risks. ;)

i was definitely worried about him falling. every time i took him down, he made a beeline for it again. he's so curious... i feel bad for keeping him in his tank when he wants to get out.

Take him out and let him roam around, while you still watch over him. Mine is the same. Constantly wants to roam around and climb whatever there is possible to climb. Racks, book case, and mostly all types of furniture ;)

Mine seems the happiest when in adventuring mode roaming around the flat ;)
