    Help with a feeding schedule...
Joe[spehine] is a 5.5', 10ish year old female BP weighing in at a whopping 1818g. Yes, you read that right. She's an underweight girl. What size and schedule would you recommend to bring her up to weight without causing gastrointestinal distress. She has been fed by her owner only twice since they arrived in Oregon in September. :( Bad snake mommy. I can't take it anymore. Please help. Here's the poor, skinny girl in question.

Once a week with appropriate size food should be good for her. Are you sure on the age of her?

Yup. My sister has had her for almost 10 years. She was 30" when she got her. She can eat large rats and did before she has lost so much weight.

    So, weekly 180-200g rats?

Feed small-medium rat once a week.

All of my adults are on this schedule and continue to grow.

Please keep in mind that this is a 10 year old, 5.5', underweight female... While we are use to feeding a healthy, adult male I know this girl needs special consideration. She's spent a year in the wild a few years back and she does tend to go off feed. I don't want to a) stress her out or b) cause any health issues. Also, she is a live feeder only.

I agree with everyone else. Small or med rat once a week for now. If she starts gaining weight too fast or not gaining any at all we can adjust from there. Keep in mind that there is really no need for her to get HUGE, if shes not going to be a breeder (and it sounds like she probably shouldn't) theres no need to bulk her up too much. And at her age you may not really even get her to gain a ton of wait anyway.

She reminds me a lot of my girl Lucy. Lucy is a 17 year old SMALL female. Now that she's better cared for she eats great and maintains a healthy weight, but shes never really gotten all that much bigger then when I got her

I care for a BP at a local nature center. Got them to get bigger f/t mice(yes mice), and he has begun to put on some weight cause he was underfed. He's estimated at 20 years old and eats 2-3 mice every 2 weeks when not on food strike. Granted he's eating mice, they are jumbo mice. Sometimes he'll eat a 4th.
