Whats up guys! I breed rats (I have a clutch of eggs on the way, thats not why i breed rats though) but am so insanely sick of the online rat community that Im permanently switching to herp forums to hang out with people who have rats but aren't so touchy.

Im a rat breeder- not a snake person, feel free to hit me up with any questions or help concerning rats or rat breeding :)

to pay my fee for posting this I will show you a picture of a pastel I was housing recently who ended up being too small to breed with my GF's 52 in regular.

I've read thru some of the mouse and rat forums...it can be brutal on some of them. We have our moments over here at BP.net, but for the most part, it's just a big happy dysfunctional family

Welcome, it's always great to have a rodent expert around these parts.

    BTW, for a non-snake person, that's a pretty nice Pastel you're holding...

Thanks the missus is the snake person, i'm breeding her snake (regular) with some citrus triple fruitloop bananaslug kryo crizzle something or other for the hell of it though. I have no idea how you guys keep track of the names of your genetic breeds.

Im a disabled vet (whattup slim, OEF 10/11 4ID, what what) so i chill with my rats all day

you'll probably see me thumbing through all the posts on here and spurting off tidbits of info (hopefully useful and accurate), happy to help you guys breed correctly, i have no qualms with breeding for snake food even though I breed and raise pet quality rats and don't sell feeders.

this is my gf's 52in standard that we rescued from an exotic animal rescue that shut down.

it kind of makes me nervous because i handle my rats constsantly and i dont want it to bite me haha

also, to be clear, i am by no means a 'rodent expert', but will be happy to lend what knowledge i do have as an enthusiast on the other side of the animal spectrum. I have plenty of friends who also breed rats, are vet tech, and are more knowledgable about rodents than I- and i would be happy to pass on more specific questions that I am unsuitable to answer

Mouse people are just as bad as rat people. Nothing but bullies.

My friend is a rodent person, she's shown me some of the forums for mice and rats, they really do get brutal. Glad you're here, RatPimp! Your girl's snake is lovely, definitely a big girl!

Welcome to the forum! I was pretty big in the rat world for awhile. I stopped breeding for pets/show when I got pregnant and my husband was still in the active military. Took up breeding again when I got into snakes, but now it's just for me (well, for the snakes). Lots lots easier not having to maintain a reputation or place a number of babies. I like being able to do it for myself and my own enjoyment.

thanks for the welcome guys! And yeah dude, no kidding, they don't play around.

People wouldn't have NEARLY the issue breeding correctly if people werent so stuck the :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r: up about helping people do it right. I understand the idea of not having peeps just breeding rats for the :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r: of it, but thinking that being generally unhelpful and hostile will somehow change their mind or learn them up to taking care of them better than if you had just answered whatever question they were asking.

As far as i'm concerned, the BEST thing to do is to help the people who will obviously not be changing their minds even though you object. Its not about the morals of the person to me and weather or not im offended, its the health and wellbeing of their ratties I care about- and if that person is going to breed despite my objections than the next best ethical thing to do is help them do it correctly and safely.

I think that about sums up most rodent people: "generally unhelpful and hostile"
