Qs for those that have a freezer for their f/t feeders
Hey guys,
I'm about to order more f/t rodents for my growing collection and wanted to ask those that use a separate freezer a couple questions. We are considering getting one, just to save storage space in our "normal" freezer but the catch is that we currently live in an apartment and would have to put it in the animal room which would be on carpet. We are also planning on moving this year into a house. Something else I've considered is that the smaller units (2-5 cu. ft.) are crazy expensive for their size (usually $200 and up). I wouldn't even be considering buying one right now, except that we are planning on getting a boa and bigger snakes = bigger prey = less space for our food in the freezer... It also limits how many months supply I can order now.
My questions for you guys:
1. What size freezer do you use for your f/t and is it "sole purpose"?
2. Would it be better to wait and get a larger unit when we have a house? (I am planning on breeding my own rats down the line, but not on a large scale and plan to stay under 10 snakes)?
3. If you have a freezer and have it inside, do any of you keep it on carpet and were there any complications?
Thanks so much for your time and help!
Re: Qs for those that have a freezer for their f/t feeders
We just put one in the herp room, purchased used for $50 from a friend. It's on carpet, no issues so far, but then again it's an old carpet that I don't care about and will be replaced if/when I ever sell the house.
The freezer's exterior dimensions are 36"x21"x33", not sure what the internal cubic footage is. I also found it useful to get some of the freezer baskets to help segregate the bags of smaller rodents - all of the mice from pinkies thru hoppers in one basket, rat pinks thru pups in another, etc. That way I'm not likely to find a bag of freezer-burned pinkies in the bottom of the freezer in a year.

check Craigslist or your local classifieds. you can usually find used freezers pretty cheap.
