Strange smell coming from light fixture

There is a strange smell coming from the dome light fixture of my snakes enclosure. I turned off that light (her night time light) and have the day lamp back on. Has anyone experienced this? Is it the fixture or the bulb? Any advice?

An electrical item making a strange smell is usually not a good sign...

OMG! I just had this problem, and then all my lights went out! I'm not sure if it was the fixture or the bulb, but I replaced both. The bulb is the same kind, just a different one. I replaced the fixture altogether.

I would dump the fixture if you suspect it at all. Incredibly cheap compared to the possible consequences of a failure.

The fixture was brand new, so I took it back to the store with the receipt and got another one. It works perfect. Thanks everyone!
