Black eyed vs pink eyed siamese
One of the tan boys that I got from a feeder breeder turned out to be a hooded siamese! He's beautiful and I plan to use him to improve his siamese color.
He is pink eyed. I prefer black eyed siamese. Is this another gene or can I get black eyed siamese by breeding my pink eye to a back eyed rat?
Re: Black eyed vs pink eyed siamese
Black Eyed siamese is a dominant gene, you can't breed it unless you already have it.
Burmese is also a dominant gene, but requires colorpoint ( that is, siamese or Himalaya n) to show up. Burmese can have black, red, or pink eyes, depending on what color genes you add to it. This is similar to Merle, which is dominant but requires mink to express.
I don't know how color point works in gerbils, so can't comment on how they compare to rats.

No. You need burmese to get more burmese.
Re: Black eyed vs pink eyed siamese
PES is actually called RES (Red Eyed Siamese). If they have Pink eyes or lighter colored eyes, they are likely just being diluted. In order to get Black Eyed Siamese or Burmese, the genes have to be present and since they are dominant and they would have to be visual as they are dominant on the c-locus.
