Ovulation?

Hoping someone's skilled eye might be able to tell me if they think this is ovulation? I came back from a 2 day business trip and found my 4000g female soaking in her water dish. I'm going to say no.. But it might be the end of one.

Thanks for the response. Like I said I've been gone for 2 days. If I missed it is there anything I should look out for? Sorry, first time breeding attempt and I don't have an eye for this stuff yet.

No problem. Normally they will stop eating, start heat seeking (lay on the hot side), and they will blow up like they ate a football.

I would say no also could be the end of it. I usually hold them up and if their belly is blown out towards the last 3rd of her body then more than likely she is in ovulation. If you think it was ovulation then keep an eye out for a shed in 15 days and note the shed down. That could be her pre lay shed then its just a 30 day countdown until eggs.

Are there any rules of thumb for females eating habits during breeding? This female has to eat since November 22nd and she has been pairing with my male lesser since October. She has maintained weight.

Ok females tend to go off food around janurary for us. We start pairing in november and by january rolls around is when females start to go off food and some have noticeable follicle growth. You can kinda tell who is gonna lay by their eating habits and if you see them seeking the cool side of the enclosure and bowl wrapping. Alao keep in mind some females will eat all the way through ovulation and egg laying and never go off food. There are also females that wont even have a pre lay shed after ovulation they just dump their eggs around 45 days after ovulation and heck some ovulate so fast that you never notice it even if you stared at her 24 hours straight.

I would say she's either building (mine look like this soon before ovulating) or it's the end of an Ovy like some1 already said :). But the tail looks too fat so I would say she's still building :).
