Playing around

When I feed Ozzie even with the rat dead it is like he plays with it for a while before he eats it. Has anyone else had a boa to do this?

Homer was like that. Nothing to be concerned about .. he's just a youngin right?

Not sure about boas specifically, but I think most boids size up their prey before they decide to swallow it. And each boid has its own personality so to speak, so the behavior you see isn't at all abnormal.

My boa will constrict the already-dead rat, and then proceed to attempt swallowing it frrom a bunch of different angles until he finally gets it nose-first. It is pretty funny, but sometimes he'll grab the rat sideways in his jaws and move it to a better location before swallowing. Or he'll constrict it, then uncoil, and appear to have lost the rat, looking all around for it! After a half hour of this one time, I picked up the rat and made it move around and the snake re-struck at it and ate it normally.
Boas are little weirdos..

That is the same thing Ozzie does, it is pretty funny. Sometimes its like he is daring something to take his prize.
