Unusual Hissing?
Hello, so I have about a 9 month old Ball Python and I've been a bit concerned. I recently converted her over to F/T in the past to weeks. I noticed this past week and just now that she makes a slight hissing sound very occasionally (about 4 times that I've heard). I know that ball pythons do this when they feel threatened but the thing is, is that I'm not even around her when she hisses, nor have I interacted with her at all when she does it. A few moments ago she did it and it almost sounded like a squeak right before the hiss. Could this be signs of a RI or am I just over exaggerating?

Hi
What are your temps/humidity??
Are there any other signs of RI (mucus, labored breathing, etc)??

Re: Unusual Hissing?
Under her rock, it's about 97 degrees, and I don't have a thermometer for the cold side of the tank yet, and the humidity is at about 55%. I have not noticed any other signs aside from what I posted.

Re: Unusual Hissing?
97 is way to hot. What are you using for heat, and how are you controlling it? Should be 80 ambient, with with a hot spot of 90.

I'm using a under tank heater, I don't know how to control it, I just put more or less substrate over the spot where the heater is.

Your snake can burrow down and burn it self. You need a thermostat to control the heat pad. A hydrofarm is a cheap (and temporary, imo) option from amazon. The best option (imo) is a Herpstat. A thermostat will control your heat source, and keep it from getting too hot.

x2
Be sure to get an actual thermostat rather than just a dimmer switch or rheostat…these are difficult to dial in for the right temp

Re: Unusual Hissing?
So in terms of my snake, does anyone know what the reason for the hissing is?

He could be cheeved off because he's too hot and uncomfortable. That's what we are trying to help you get to the bottom off...
