2 yr old boy won't eat.
I have a 2 yr old (?) boy that will not eat. I've tried f/t and live. He shows no interest at all. He only ate once since I got him around Thanksgiving. Since then he won't go for it. I fed him a medium live rat and he snagged it fast the first time I fed him. My girl eats fine. She has taken large and medium live and f/t rats. He is trying his hardest to get to her. They were accidentally placed together by my husband who isn't a snake guy, and they locked at least once. I haven't had them together since. Is he just going through the normal guy thing and not eating because of breeding season? I've been tracking weights and he hasn't lost too much weight. His parameters are right on target. Hot side 89 to 90 cool side 83 to 84, humidity 60%. Both enclosures are the same in temp and humidity. I have 2 hides, a water dish in middle, damp moss, and mopani log. Both enclosures are covered on all sides except half the front to help them feel secure, screen tops have foil and saran wrap on 2/3s of it. Like I said everything is identical except the size of hides. His are smaller than hers because he is smaller. I have digital temp humidity guages with probes inside warm hide. I have damp moss in warm hides. They are in a quiet area.

That's how they are. Especially once they are over a year old. I've had one go off feed for almost 6 months. As long as he is trying to breed he may stay off feed. Just be patient and track his weight. You may want to try once every two weeks on feeding until he goes back on. Best of luck with him.

I've never owned a boy just my girl. She's 4 yrs. I've been trying to get him to go every 2 wks since he stopped eating the little brat. Should I place them together in hopes of it triggering his feeding response? I weigh them before I feed them and he hasn't lost much. She is finally gaining again. She's around 850 now instead of 750. She gets fed weekly and so would he if he was eating.

I would say your boy has his mind on things other than food right now, especially if you house them in close proximity and he can smell her.

Their enclosures are within a foot of each other. They are on the same stand and the open sides face each other. I have it that way so I can easily read the monitor. Should I move himmto another room? None of my other rooms have as stable temps as my living room. They are in the quietest spot in the house. I have a cat dog and 2 boys lol. So my house is never quiet except at night when my oldest and dog are in bed. My youngest is only 6 wks so he's up day and night.
