ZooMed UTH/Herpstat

Can you hook zoomed heat pads up to a Herpstat or is it better to use heat tape?
Will the heat pads provide enough heat to incubate ball python eggs?

A Zoo-Med UTH can be controlled by a herpstat.

What type/size incubator are we talking about?

It's 34 qt sterillite tub. I'm trying maternal incubation.

Ok, we need a lot more information.

1. What is the temperature of the room the tub will be in?
2. will the tub be in a rack. If so what type of rack?
3. What substrate are you using/how thick of a layer?

The room temperature usually stays between 75-78.
The tub isn't in a rack. It has the lid to the sterilite tub with holes punched on the top.
I use aspen bedding. It's about 2 inches thick.

Room temps are ok, but could be a few degrees higher ideally.

Your substrate layer is way too thick. Your UTH won't be able to heat through all that. You need to keep your substrate layer ½" thick or less. I would also suggest you switch to eco-earth for better humidity control/mold resistance if you are going to try maternal incubation.

Is there any particular reason why you are going to try maternal incubation? It is really easy to build a cheap incubator that will hold more consistent temps/humidity, and allow the mother to recover far more quickly.

All you need to make an incubator is a small foam cooler, some heat tape, some aluminum foil tape, a thermostat, and some incubation substrate.

To setup the incubator all you have to do is:

1. Tape the heat tape to the inside walls of the cooler using the aluminum foil tape.
2. Hang the thermostat probe in the center of the cooler.
3. Set the thermostat for your desired incubation temp.
4. Place your incubation substrate in the bottom of the cooler (not touching the heat tape)
5. Place the eggs in the substrate

Will I need to order some hatch rite? or will the eco earth be okay in the cooler?
Do you mean I can put them directly into the cooler or is it better to have them in a 6 qt tub inside the cooler?

I would go with hatch rite for an incubator.

You can do it either way with a small incubator.
