I use a shredded aspen called "Harlan Teklad" and I LOVE it.
It looks great and cleans up very nicely, doesn't hold humidity as good as say, Eco earth or other coco husk, but it is fine here in Ga.
Plus you can get massive bags of it for very cheap.

I use Aspen Sani-chips in the BP tub, and in the boa cages, I use corrugated paper, which is similar to cardboard.

The chips do work great at absorbing, it works like cat litter. I just switched because I just kept making a mess with them lol :P

I was using paper towels for a while, I switched over to the kraft indented paper.

Easy to clean, easy to put in tub. No mess. Humidity can be a concern, so if you live in a low humidity area or particularly dry house you may be better off with something else.

Some people can find it at feed stores, but I get it from here.

    I use paper towel.
I check my tubs twice a day and it makes cleanup much easier for me. I used to use Aspen chips but the brand I was using contained mites. These were NOT snake mites, but were crawling all over the snakes since they were in the bedding. I will use Aspen shavings (different brand/different source) when I want to increase the humidity. What you use will depend on your environment, and your own since of appeal. I personally wouldn’t use the eco-earth for Ball Pythons. I fear that it may stay too wet/damp and may cause scale rot. I like my substrate to be dry or (in the case with the aspen shavings) provide air circulation under the snake.
