I, as many on here use a Dunlop heat pad from Walmart.
My question is does anyone know how long they last?
I mean when using a heat pad as it was intended it is on for short periods of time and not that often.

Running all the time or going on and off all day everyday has to take a toll on it. It wasn't designed to fuction as such.

Just wondering if anyone knew or had insight into this?

    Thanks

Good question. I have no idea, but alot of us are doing some serious long term testing for them :)

I have had my heating pad bought from Walmart, a Dunlop under my bp's cage for just over a year now. It is run all the time, during the summer months it gets turned down a bit, but is run on high most of the winter. So, they seem to be OK using them the way we do.

I have bought half a dozen for reptile usage, and one of them died on me after a few months, but it had inadequate air circulation. My thought is as cheap as they are, if you have a need for a few of them, keep a spare on hand. You can always use it for yourself. :)

I got one about 4 months ago and its gone already. I like them because they are cheap but they are also thick which makes spacing between the enclosure and the heat pad. I have a zoomed that is about 2 years old and its still going strong.

i found a human heat pad the other day and would fit nicely on one side under the 30 gal but it has an auto shut off, it stays on for a while and goes off and then it comes back on, i decided not to use it becuase of that. i guess i will have to buy another reptile one or find one that doesnt ave the auto shut off.
