    Kenyan Sand Boa Problem
I purchased a KSB in june 2013, i do not know the sex of it, i just call it a boy. One thing i have noticed, is that no matter how often he eats (primarily once a week unless he's shedding) and how often he sheds, he is not growing. He is the exact same size now, as he was when i bought him.

Is this something i should be concerned about? And if so, what can i do?

    Thanks!

I will try to add a photo.

What is his current weight? What was his weight when you purchased him? I had a sand boa for a long time and had nothing but issues with him (He was a rescue long story). Try getting him on a good feeding/weighing routine, and make a notebook or something for him recording his sheds, weight, and when he eats. Also did he have a bad shed? He looks like he has old skin around his whole body, either that or he'd dehydrated.

Before he could shed his skin 3 days ago, he shed again the next day. So now he's fighting two sheds. He does this every once a while.

I got him at 15 grams, and he has only grown to 20.

He fed really well when i first got him, then around end of august, beginning of september, he went through a fast (pain in the ass) and went six weeks without eating. And when i finally did get him to eat, and even now, he doesn't strike, he just opens his mouth and waits for me to put the mouse into his mouth.

He's still pretty strong, and is eating pinkies pretty consistently. I do live in a very dry climate, so i have to be constantly misting his cage, because he does really like his moss house when it's humid.

You may want to invest in a more humid cage design, open screen tanks (if that's what you use) have very poor ventilation and yield horrible humidity. When a snake sheds they should be able to shed it all within an hour or so; it shouldn't take a day. If he's fighting two sheds at once, you may want to help him before it gets worse. I had the same issue with mine when it came to eating. He would eat for a few weeks and start putting on weight, but then would go off feed for months, until he finally stopped eating all together.

You can always try a "sauna" too, to help with shedding. Put him in a plastic container (with holes for air) with warm wet paper towels in the bottom for a couple hours.

Fasting snakes are a serious pain... I'm going through this with my male hognose right now.. I think he might actually starve himself to death.

That said, I have a couple questions / thoughts for your snake.

    1. Is he eating regularly now?
    2. How often are you feeding him?

Although my advice may change depending on what you say for my questions I have a couple thoughts that might help...
    1. I have 2 female KSBs and when I noticed they weren't gaining weight (while eating regularly), I began feeding 2 pinkies at a time. This helped them gain weight until I upgraded them to the next food size.

    2. You can try feeding them every 5 days (again, not sure if this is what you're doing). Mine have no problems eating every 5 days and are growing like weeds (I got a female in Oct. that weighed 15 grams, now she weighs 35). You may want to try this before trying feeding multiple items per meal.

    3. What is the enclosure temp? You may want to increase to 95 on the "hot end" if you don't have it at that temp already.

    4. This is a long shot... Do the snake's poos look "normal" or odd (runny, etc.)? It is possible that it could have some sort of internal parasite like worms that would keep it from getting all the nutrients from food.

    Hope this helps!
If you need more advice, I know of a sandboa only group on FB that you can try: sandboa keepers.
