hog nose

Anybody here have one ? I think they are soo cute, they look like mini rattlers i know a lady who has one and i got to hold it and fell in love, maybe after my corn i will get one of those guys. If anybody has any please post some pics i would love to see them !

I'd love one too! They are the cutest baby snakes I've ever seen. I was supposed to get a female Western Hognose from a breeder, but when she decided to go off feed - my worst nightmare with a hognose. It's usually males who go off feed. Anyway, he won't give her to me until she starts back eating regularly. Which I'm glad, hogs are known for going off feed of rodents and forcing you to feed them lizards, etc. If you ever get one get a Western Hognose (less feeding problems and recommended for beginners) and be sure it's already eating rodents. I've actually told myself no more reptiles for awhile (after I get my rosy boa this month), so if she doesn't come around I may not get a hog. We'll see. I'd love to see some pics as well!

rosy boas are awesome too, The breeder has a western hognose and he is a very picky eater from what she says and is pretty small for his age. I know i wont be getting one of those for a LONG time becuase of the parents. They said two snakes is enough for now, but who knows what can happen, my mom said when we get our house built for us i will have an extra room for all my pets which i plan to turn into a snake room.

She knows how much i love animals and now she sees that i want to get serious about snakes so giving me my own extra room is no biggie.but thats like in a year from now. but oh well, at least its going to happen.

it is a big deal brandon! not a lot of people your age get to have something like that. i live in my own apartment and i don't even have a herp room. i have to wait until i can afford to buy a house where i will have the space for it. your mom is awesome to support you and your herp hobby. :D

Is it true that westerns only grow to be about 28 30 inches or more ? i thought they got bigger than that, small is good but for some reason i thought they grew alot bigger.

Females can get 2-3 feet on average - males under 2 feet.

I have had several Eastern Hognose, and 2 Western Hognose in my time. The eastern hognose grows a good bit larger then the western. I never had any of them go off feed and only fed them toads. Luckily toads are very abundent in the areas that I lived when I had them. They are great herps to keep and easy to take care of. If I decide to have one again all I have to do is cross the street into the woods and locate one.

My youngest son has joined the Marines and leaves sometime in the first couple of weeks of September so I will finally have a herp room. Let the Herp expansion begin!
