Egg cutting question

Do hatchlings immediately begin breathing air when the eggs are full-term and cut? Also, because you'll ask...I incubated at 89° and cut on day 54.

I don't think so,
with all the fluid thats in the egg I think they start breathing when the head pops out of the egg.
Thats my logical conclusion not based on fact though.

Which leads me to next question...
When should you add water to a cut egg to prevent it from drying out and should you add enough to cover its head? Do hatchlings "breath" in the albumen like mammals while still in the egg? Will adding water essentially drown the hatchling if it hasn't yet "pipped" it's head through the membrane?

I have no experience with breeding or egg incubation, but to me, it would be safer to spray the eggs with water so they are coated with moisture.

I have never had to spray the eggs after cutting but would think you could if you had to.

I had no idea you had to keep eggs moist after cutting

If you are very careful cutting you will not break the membrane, or any veins inside the egg. The hatchlings will pop their heads out when they are ready to breathe air. I also, have never needed to add water or spray eggs after cutting. I keep them in the incubator until they totally come out of the egg.

Never heard anyone adding water before only spraying them down

Don't worry, just don't mess with the eggs. You'll be good

I have never had to add water either and they all come out like champs. Once they pop there head out of the egg they should be out in 2 days or so.
