    Proper heat
Hey guys, I have two snakes, a ball python and a king snake, While both thermometers put the tank heat readings around 70-80ish degrees F, Whenever I hold my snakes, they still feel a little bit cold or sometimes a little bit warm, should I trust my thermometers? Are my snakes still supposed to feel a little bit cold?

70 to 80F is a big range, and without a hotspot it's too cold for a BP. Do you have a hot spot?

What kind of thermometers do you have? Analog thermometers are generally considered less precise than digital ones.

BP should stay above 75, and is the warm temp ambient or on the surface of her enclosure above the UTH? What kind of thermometer are you using to measure the temperatures?

BP should have an ambient of 80F, with a hot spot of 90F. King snake, I believe, should have an ambient around 70-75F with a hot spot of 85F (someone with more king snake experience please correct me if I am wrong).

The reason they feel cool, is because our skin's temperature is over 90F (my temp gun actually measured mine at 93.5F), so anything cooler than that - which your snakes most likely would and probably should be - would feel cool to us.

*This is why it is so important to use thermostats to control heat sources! What is warm to us is HOT to them! And if it is hot to us...* :tears:
