Record keeping for breeder rats
What kind of methods do yall use to keep track of your breeders. Stickers, index cards, etc.. I dont have a system but need one. I know I need to start to weed out some breeders, im just not sure how to monitor them. Thanks, Neil
Re: Record keeping for breeder rats
I currently have a notebook in which I keep a record of each animal on their own page. That page includes an id number, description of the animal birth date, family tree, and records of reach litter (number born, date born, colors). Will also include health information and death date as available.
To keep track of reach animal in the racks, I have a piece of foam board on each bin, to which I stick reach animals thumb tack. The thumb tack has the animal's id number and brief description (ie black hood, beige berk, fawn blaze berk). I add the brief description so I can quickly if the animal without having to memorize numbers or refer to the notebook. The thumb tack follows the animal it belongs to, into whichever bin the animal goes. I'll have to get a photo of that doesn't make sense.

Re: Record keeping for breeder rats
I hang a tag next to each tub. Just a piece of cardstock with a hole punched in the top hung onto a screw I put on the rack leg. One for each tub. On it I write the birthdate of the girls I put in, when I put them in. When I add males, I jot down which one and on what date. When babies are born I note what date, and how many there are. Not real fancy, but it's worked well for me for several years.
